Embark on a Primate Winter Wonderland: Trentham Monkey Forest Launches ‘Winter Walks With Monkeys’ Experience
Trentham Monkey Forest is excited to introduce a brand-new and exclusive winter adventure that will leave you in awe of the UK’s captivating hidden gem.
The ‘Winter Walks With Monkeys’ experience offers visitors the rare opportunity to venture into the heart of our closed Monkey Forest during the winter season, providing an up-close and personal encounter with Barbary macaques like never before.
With this unique experience, a cosy group of just 10 fellow adventurers will don their walking boots and set out to explore the 60-acre Staffordshire Woodland, home to 140 remarkable Barbary macaques. Visitors will be able to witness these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat, gaining unparalleled insights into their daily lives. Never before has a visitor been able to access the forest in wintertime.
Your journey will be accompanied by a knowledgeable Barbary macaque expert who will share insights about the incredible primate species that Trentham Monkey Forest diligently protects in Staffordshire.
As one of the privileged few in the forest, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and delve deeper into the intriguing world of these captivating monkeys.
The monkeys that reside within Trentham Monkey Forest live in the woodland all year round as it is a conservation sanctuary for Barbary macaque monkeys. The environment the 140 free-roaming Barbary macaques are kept in allows them to act exactly how they would in the wild. The behaviours are preserved to be able to facilitate possible reintroduction to the wild when conditions are more favourable.
There are less than 8,000 Barbary macaques left in the wild and the population has decreased by more than 50% in the last 40 years. The monkeys are categorised as endangered on the IUCN Endangered Species list.
The ‘Winter Walks With Monkeys’ experience includes:
