Head of Maintenance

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Trentham Monkey Forest to be our Head of Maintenance!

You will head-up and manage all aspects of Maintenance at our busy tourist attraction.

In addition to proactively planning and organising work schedules, you will be hands-on in assisting and ensuring all maintenance tasks are completed to an excellent standard inside and outside of the UK’s only Monkey Forest!

The Head of Maintenance position shares our collective goal of providing a great experience for visitors and will support our desire to develop as a thriving visitor attraction.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and practical individual with creative flair, who’s keen to develop and improve spaces.

  • The overarching duty of the individual is the responsibility of maintaining and assisting in developing the entire grounds at Monkey Forest. Within our small team, this will include some aspects of janitorial work.
  • The successful candidate will have a full driving license, good level of fitness (for some of the more physically demanding tasks) and a positive outlook.
  • Great teamwork, good interpersonal skills and flexibility are vital to the smooth running of the park.
  • Daily and Monthly checks of play equipment, vehicles and fencing.
  • Experience in maintenance/practical work required.
  • Experience in operating plant machinery advantageous but not essential.

Job Description

  • Responsible for maintaining the monkey enclosure, forest, buildings, and all other areas of the park.
  • Ensure safety/cleanliness – inspections of play equipment, toilets, fencing, vehicles etc.
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance of the park making provision for your duties to be covered in your absence.
  • Responsible for managing and supervising maintenance assistants.
  • Maintain up to date log book on all equipment and liaise with technicians to fix problems.
  • Ensuring all the regular safety controls are conducted and logged.
  • Training of staff & making sure ongoing training is conducted for all the vehicles.
  • Training of the staff on how to use tools available in the barn if necessary and making sure they keep the barn tidy and the tools in place.
  • Responsibility for workshop safety and security and ensuring fire regulations strictly adhered to and ensuring compliance with all health and safety rules applicable for the barn.
  • Monitoring and checking the monkey enclosure fence is secure at all times.
  • Planning maintenance work to be conducted in the park in advance and notifying management.
  • Responsible for the waste management.
  • Ensuring good customer service is maintained.
  • Liaising with management and providing reports as requested.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have staff management experience, and the ability to get the best out of individuals in a team.
  • Have excellent communication skills to liaise with a wide range of people, from contractors to seasonal employees.
  • Have hands-on experience in maintenance, preferably within a commercial environment.
  • Have experience of encouraging and enforcing Health and Safety procedures in the workplace.
  • The role will include weekend, school holidays and out of hours work.

The role will frequently require additional tasks not listed above to help the small, dedicated wider team.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £26,000+

Pay: £26,000.00-£27,000.00 per year
