Help protect endangered primates across the globe

60% of all primate species are threatened by extinction or are endangered, according to recent estimates. The decline of these populations is essentially due to loss of favourable habitat but also hunting and the illegal pet trade. Trentham Monkey Forest in Staffordshire is home to 140 endangered Barbary macaques.

It’s finally here – this week one of the Trentham Monkey Forest team is setting off to climb the biggest mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro. A team of people from Staffordshire, Cheshire, and Shropshire will be taking part in the 6-day climb.

At this time of year, the forest is full of berries and acorns, a perfect treat for the monkeys. The forest has a number of large oak trees so acorns are plentiful. The monkeys really enjoy this seasonal treat and the nuts provide them with lots of goodness as the weather gets cooler.
