Baby Boom at Trentham Monkey Forest: 5 More Barbary Macaque Births Bring Joy to the Forest
We’ve got monkey business of the very best kind here at Trentham Monkey Forest and it’s absolutely adorable!
Just two weeks after announcing the birth of three baby Barbary macaques, we’re thrilled to share that five more babies have arrived, taking our total to eight bouncing bundles of joy this season!
Each spring and early summer, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of new life in the forest, and this year has certainly not disappointed. With eight newborns now playfully clinging to their mothers or exploring their surroundings, it’s a truly magical time to visit and witness these fascinating animals up close.
As the only place in the UK where you can walk among free-roaming Barbary macaques, our 60-acre woodland is alive with the sights and sounds of monkey mums, curious siblings, and, of course, our delightful new arrivals. From tiny, wide-eyed babies to protective parents and playful juveniles, there’s so much to see and learn.
Barbary macaques are listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, with less than 8000 remaining in the wild, every birth is a small but meaningful step in the ongoing effort to protect this incredible species. At Trentham Monkey Forest, we’re proud to play a role in conservation, education, and raising awareness about the challenges these monkeys face in the wild.
Each new baby is not just a joy for us and our visitors, it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving natural habitats and supporting programmes like ours to preserve and protect a fascinating species with an uncertain fate.
Now is the perfect time to plan your visit to Trentham Monkey Forest. Whether you’re a family looking for a unique day out, a wildlife enthusiast, or simply someone who loves cute animals (and who doesn’t?), there’s something truly special about walking among these free-roaming Barbary macaques.
Bring your cameras and your curiosity, you might just catch a glimpse of a tiny baby clinging to its mum’s belly or taking its first wobbly steps!
We love seeing your photos and videos from your visits. If you’re lucky enough to spot one of our new arrivals, don’t forget to share your moments with us on social media using and you might just be featured on our channels!
