May – August 2023 – BABY SEASON

At Trentham Monkey Forest we aim to have between 6 and 10 babies born every year as this is vital for the conservation of the species

Barbary macaques are strictly seasonal reproducers. They do their mating in the Autumn/Winter time and have a gestation period of around 5.5 months. So births tend to land in Spring and Early Summer time.

If you’re planning to visit when a new-born baby is here, June/July is most likely to be the ideal time to book a ticket, to see one of our new arrivals!

We have young monkeys all year-round, but new borns are typically born in the warmer months.

Births generally take place at night in the trees they sleep in, so the team at Monkey Forest will most likely see a new-born baby for the first time when feeding the monkeys their breakfast in the morning.

New-born babies normally weigh around 600g and have an adorable red face and are typically a ‘fan’ favourite for visitors.

We will announce births every year as and when they arrive, so have a look out on our socials to be the first to know.
